Obituary of Margaret McMillan Baird
Margaret (Peggy) McMillan Baird passed away peacefully at home, as she wished, in her 101st year, on January 5th, 2025.
Peggy was born and raised in Bruce County. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario and Ontario Teacher’s College, Toronto, she taught at Alma College, St. Thomas, before moving to St. Marys to teach at St. Marys DCVI. She settled in St. Marys to marry and raise a family, establishing herself within the community for over 70 years. As one of her ministers shared, “Peggy was an extremely dedicated and lifelong member at St. Marys United Church”.
Predeceased by her husband, Bob, her son Don (Donna) and son-in-law Richard Jackson (Janet). Loving mother of Janet (Julian), Kathy (Richard), and Liz. Treasured Nan of Andrew (Megan) and Adam (April) and Mandy (Colin). Great-Nan of Destiny, Addison, and Ashtyn, Jaxson, William and Brooklynn. Fondly remembered by cousins as well as friends at Cedar Terraces. Peggy had the ability to endear herself to many, many acquaintances and community members.
Peggy was an athlete, an animal lover, especially large dogs, an avid reader, and a crossword enthusiast. She loved the cottage and being a true Bruce County girl, the bagpipes. But her defining feature was her love of family. Truly a life well lived!
A private family service is being held. The family welcomes friends and family to drop in at an Open House Reception at the St. James Masonic Lodge, 45 Thames Road, St, Marys on Sunday January 19, 2025, 2:30pm to 4:30pm.
Interment will follow in the spring at the Greenock Cemetery, Bruce County.
