I am deeply saddened at the loss of a beautiful and faithful human being. I am blessed to count both Jason and Young as friends, and have admired them both for years. On his preparation for ordered ministry, I had the honor to interview Jason on two occasions. His vibrancy, energy, humor and candor was unlike any other candidate I have known. He was a gift to the United Church and was destined to be blessing to his community of faith. It was an equal honor to serve with Young on a committee of St. Andrew’s College and found in her a perfect partner to Jason. I send my deepest condolence to Young and Jason’s family. May you feel the strength and grace of God as you travel this difficult journey.

My sincere condolences Young and Lincoln. I was acquainted with Jason through Twin Valleys Presbytery meetings. He was exuberant and dedicated. What a loss to the church and to his family! I don’t know if you remember Young, that you had planned to meet Catherine Christie in Kipling in December 2018. If that trip had worked out, you would have stayed at our house. I pray that God provides strength at this time of grief.

I first met Jason as a co-home group leader at Youth Forum GCC Kelowna (a national church youth event). I was struck by how deeply he wanted to know and care for people, how he was willing to debate life and principles, and how much he loved to laugh. I bumped into him now and again over the years and remember vividly the absolute bliss on his face introducing me to Young. It gave me hope at a time when I was not quite convinced life had much joy left for me. Jason, I am a better person for having known you in the small ways that I did.

In 2013, I traveled with a group of 21 people from McClure United Church in Saskatoon (including Jason) to the Bosowas Biosphere Reserve in Nicaragua. Up until then, I had only seen the fun, silly and whimsical side of Jason. Shortly after we’d arrived, my daughter and I learned that a close family member of ours had passed away suddenly and unexpectedly back home. We had just flown for a day, driven for two days and boated for another day to get to our destination so leaving our group to get back home on time for the funeral was out of the question. This was, of course, a very distressing situation for us. It was then that I first witnessed a completely different side of Jason. Jason, who at that time was still a theology student, took the time to prepare and then to conduct a little memorial service for our loved one with prayers, scripture, and words of comfort for us. His compassionate leadership allowed us to experience the love and support of our whole travel group. The fact that he would do that for us there in Nicaragua still means the world to me. It was an unprecedented act of kindness that I will always treasure and remember. I am deeply saddened to learn of Jason’s passing. Young, Lincoln and all of Jason’s family, may you feel the love and support of more people than you even know who are holding you in our hearts and prayers.

I'm sharing this photo of Jason in the middle of a group of colleagues at St. Andrew's College. This is how I knew Jason, and will remember him. He was engaged, and engaging. I and other professors of the college during Jason's studies have the gift of knowing his deepening passion for theological studies over his years as a student, and of being close witness to his growth in dedication and skill for pastoral ministry and for theological leadership.
Reading other tributes to Jason and having glimpses of the ways he embraced and was embraced by the communities in which he was minister, is so heartening. I see this photo of Jason from about 10 years ago knowing that he fulfilled so much of what he set in his heart and faith to do, and knowing that he was loved and recognized for the gifts of faith and care he nurtured. He will be so deeply missed by so many.
I send deep condolences to Young, Lincoln, and all of Jason's family. Young Seo is also a treasured former student whose love and gifts for ministry, theology, community and faith shine bright, and I trust and pray that the deepest care will surround her, and Lincoln, now and into the future.
Much love and respect,
Lynn Caldwell

Young, Lincoln an Family...
Since the first day I met Jason, I knew he was the breath of fresh air we needed at church. His way with people was so genuine and pure to everyone he met. I had many good conversations with him about life, personal things and he was a wealth of information and support to me as a Celebrant. From the beginning he was a hugger and I shall miss his "church" hugs and being told, "we both needed that". Cynthia also enjoy his visits to the choir room before church for prayer and visiting with him when doing things at church. He became a friend and we shall always remember but will miss him. May our memories bring us comfort and peace in the times ahead and know that heaven will never be the same with Jason there. Until someday.......Godspeed and a hug...

We are deeply saddened to hear of Jason's passing at that young of an age. I personally enjoyed the time Jason spent as a student minister at Quill Plains Pastoral Charge in Quill Lake and Watson. I had the privilege of being on the Pastoral Charge advisory committee. Jason was always eager to try new things, in the church. He's keen interest in the community lead to joining the fire department in Quill Lake. Jason being slight in stature didn't feel he would be able to drag hoses or handle the nozzle. I told Jason you can help with divine intervention. When we have a call you ask God to help us with putting the fire out and keeping everyone safe. This he did. Miss you little buddy! Rest in Peace!

I didn't know Jason as well as others at the United Church. I have known Young a bit better. Nevertheless, I was impressed by Jason's ability to talk about the gospel and about life in general to both adults and children alike. His keen intelligence and devotion to his church and our community moved me. My sister, after hearing about his passing, said he was a brave man - I agree. Jason had to get off the life train too soon, and we will all miss him. To Young, Lincoln, family and friends: May your loving memories of time spent with Jason comfort and sustain you during this difficult time.

Young and Lincoln, Our hearts are broken for you during this difficult time. We are so thankful that you were able to share Jason with us, as he touched so many lives during his short time here in St.Marys. He was the absolute best with kids and youth and my kids were blessed to have been inspired by his preaching and living in God's love and light. He was a true leader of faith for adults too and for that, we are all better for it.
As you face this next journey in life, without him beside you, know that we are all here to walk the road together, and that he is here, watching over you, guiding you, loving you. He will be missed.

I am so saddened to hear this news of Jason’s passing. I had the privilege of meeting this amazing caring man on a plane going to my sisters wedding last summer. Jason sat beside my teenage daughter and talked to her on the trip. My girls and I became friends with him that day because of the love for Christ that we all shared. He bragged about his little boy, Lincoln, and his wife and showed us pictures. We parted ways that day at the airport and said we would talk soon. Little did we know his son would get sick and he would end up returning home on the same flight that next week as the girls and I. Jason changed seats so he could sit beside my daughter again while we travelled home. Of all the people to run into at the airport, it was Jason. Our flight got delayed by 8 hours and Jason stayed with us the whole time because I was a mess. We prayed and he helped me with my two girls so I could just have a moment to breath. My daughters and I will never forget him and how much of a God sent he was to us. The world has definitely lost a very special person but heaven has gained another amazing angel! Much love to all of the family and to the congregation that was lucky enough to have Jason as their pastor. He will be missed. ❤️

Jason - you are missed. Your loss a deep void in the lives of many. I was so privileged to teach your son during his first year of school - a privilege I will hold dear. You and Young are amazing parents - loving your boy fiercely, protectively, and with great humor!
A day I'll remember - we were at Clovermead on our year end class trip and you and Lincoln were in the corn maze. I could hear both your giggles! The look on your face - pure joy. To be with your boy, laughing, playing! You both asked me to join in the chase! May your spirit be ever present on this maze of life. May Lincoln know you are always right beside him, guiding him from the afterlife.
Young, Lincoln - I am sending you all of my love and light. I'm wrapping you in prayer during this difficult time. May you hold your memories close and ask for help when you need it. You've got a community behind you.
Rest in Peace Jason.
