Obituary of David James Patrick Cullen

David James Patrick Cullen passed away peacefully at home in St. Marys on Tuesday, September 6, with his loving wife, Gretchen Rozek, at his side. Born in Sudbury on March 17, 1944, he was in his 79^th year. An important part of his childhood was spent growing up with cousins in Stratford, and he lived for more than 40 years in Toronto, before coming to St. Marys.

David was the loving father of Carrie Anne Code (Steven), and equally loving step-father of Stephanie Rozek, David Rozek (Candace), and Erica Gough. His grandchildren, Eva, Logan, Alice, and Remy were the delight of his life. His half-sister, Gail Jenkins, lives in Florida. David was predeceased by his first wife, Dianne; his parents, Marie Held and David Cullen (II); and several fondly remembered aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Sailing was his passion and joy. He loved travelling, whether piloting his boat or covering the miles in his Roadtrek, and spending holiday times at his cousin’s cottage in Killarney, where he spent many of his earlier years. His pride was tending his garden where it was his great pleasure to host family and friends. David was an active member of the St. Marys Community Players where he often helped with building sets. He enjoyed meeting Stratford Festival patrons as a Friend of the Festival.  He served on the Board of Directors for each of these organizations.

David is remembered as a sharply-dressed, loving, generous man who was always ready with a quirky  smile and a hand to help out. We love him dearly and he will be greatly missed.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at the ST. MARYS UNITED CHURCH, 85 Church St. S. St. Marys, on October 8, 2022 at 1:30 pm in with Rev. Jason Richards and Rev. Marion Jackson-Tyler officiating.
