Dear Gretchen and all who loved David, I will always think of David with a smile and a heart full of gratitude - for his many visits to my mother at Kingsway Lodge, for suggesting and helping me to get her in her wheelchair, to the pub to enjoy fun times of singing and laughter with his buddies, for making me feel welcome in your home with cheese trays and wine, and, funny thing - I think of him every time I oil my cast iron frying pan - he taught me how. Sincere condolences to Gretchen and family. I admired David because he cared about other people – his family, his neighbours and the community. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Also, Gretchen and David were so generous in hosting family and friends at their home. I enjoyed David's friendship because of his ready smile, his sense of humour, and his unique perspective on many subjects. We also shared an interest in waterways – David was a sailor and I am a canoeist. I will always remember the wonderful times we had canoeing on the north branch of the Thames River from Mitchell to St. Marys. There are great memories but deep sadness at David's passing. To Gretchen, Stephanie, other family and many friends of Dave: Working with Dave in the St. Marys Community Player productions (particularly in "Man of La Mancha") was a real joy to me. I often met him for a chat while walking his dog at the Flats and other locales away from the Town Hall. I was drawn to his witty intelligence, compassion for others, great sense of humor and his love of performing and creating sets for the Community Players. The St. Marys community has lost one of its shining lights this week. Dave will be missed by many. May your loving memories of time spent with Dave comfort you all during this difficult time.
