I was saddened to hear of Lorne's passing. It is with happy memories I think back to my early days at Northwestern and our visits to the orchard. Lorne was a great host and a gentle soul that made everyone feel there was value in each person.
Pam please accept my sympathies on the passing of a good man and your partner. John Markle

Lorne was a special individual that will be dearly missed by all who new him.I am proud to say he was my brother and we shared many great memories over the years. Lorne loved fixing things and if that fix involved the use of stainless steel then that made it all the better. He was always available to anyone to have a discussion of all matters under the sun.
You will be missed brother
Love. Ed

Visiting Great Uncle Lorne, Aunt Pam, their dogs and the orchard was a vivid and fond memory of growing up for my brother Devon and I. Lorne and George took me on my first sailboat and I rode an ATV for the first time at the orchard. Lorne was always a thoughtful and caring listener with a great sense of humor. He always seemed genuinely interested in everything we had to say as young people. I was always struck by his positivity and optimism. While he will be missed dearly by many, I am grateful to have known him and only wish I had seen him more these last few years. My thoughts and condolences are with his many friends and loving family.

We were so saddened to hear of Lorne's sudden passing.
We are thinking of you Pam and remembering the many wonderful times shared with you and Lorne. We did have some pretty amazing 'Max McKenna' cooking evenings in our earlier years--when we could sit down to dinner at 10 or 11PM and enjoy and digest it!
We have fabulous recollections of sunny, breezy days on the water at Wildwood where Lorne, with your assistance, was in his element manoeuvring sailboat Kerry Dancer to perfection.
Our children absolutely loved cross country skiing through your orchard and their 'always comfortable' welcome to your home. You and Lorne were gracious and encouraging with them in their formative years--and as they grew--and they haven't forgotten. We were astounded when speaking with Mark last evening, at his vivid and immediate recall of rides on the Argo with Lorne, how Lorne taught him to split an apple with his bare hands, and his memory of sleeping with your dogs under the dining room table during one of our visits.
Lorne was a gentle and caring man who clearly made everyone he came into contact with feel 'special'. Our whole family will always cherish his kindness and thoughtfulness. We are truly grateful to have had the opportunities to create such treasured memories!
We're sending strength and positivity to you and to everyone impacted by this devastating loss.
Heartfelt condolences and warmest hugs,
Judy, Ed, Kim, Mark and Ben

Lorne story
When I think of Lorne I think about Christmas. Lorne was always very practical when he made his Christmas list. He had his favourite suggestions. Sperry Topsider deck shoes size 11 wide, Tilley hat style # 701 or T3 size 71/2 or a subscription renewal to Practical Sailor magazine. One Christmas when I had Lorne’s name there was something new listed. A precision machined surface plate with surface accuracy of .0001 inch for his machine shop. I decided I had to get it for him. What I didn’t realize was it was made of black granite and weighed 35kg. Buying it was the easy part. The store loaded it into the car for me. Once home It took two people to lift it while a third gift wrapped it. Due to the weight it did not end up under the tree. A card directed Lorne to the back of the car where a group of us took it into the shop for him. You couldn’t drop it or the accuracy was lost. Lorne had such a big grin on his face. That made it worth the effort.
I am so sorry for your loss Pam but he will be with us always through our happy memories.

Pam, we are so sorry for the loss of your beloved husband, Lorne. When I think of Uncle Lorne, a few memories stand out to me. The first, of course, being Lorne’s Argo! Since we were old enough to drive in it, he would rip us up and down the orchard. I love the re-enactment photos of Steve and I in the Argo doing the same pose as when we were little children. And now we have photos of my children in the Argo as well.
One of my favourite photos of your family is the one with a young Pam and all of the siblings; and a very young, cool Lorne with his slicked back hair and sunglasses. I’ve always loved that one.
Uncle Lorne and Aunt Pam very graciously offered their beautiful home and apple orchard to host my wedding ceremony. Despite the downpour and hail the night before, they did everything they could to make the day super special and beautiful, and we are forever grateful that they did that for us.
With love,
Leigh, Adam, Ava, and Sam Selves

Condolences to you Pam and to the family and friends of your beloved Lorne.
Memories, I have so many, but the one that immediately comes to mind is one that has been shared by others; the Tilley hat, Tilley socks and the Sperry Topsiders, specifically the Gold Cup Authentic brand in dark brown, and size 11. For Lorne there was no other shoe, they were his go to for any occasion. He sold me on their comfort, the style, the non slip sole and that they dried well after being wet. Similarly the Tilly hat, he showed me the stitching, how you could twist it into any shape, drop it in the water and it came out looking like new. No other hat could stand up to the wear and tear of the Tilley.
Lorne was meticulous in his research and many of us sat at the dining room table as he pulled out his folders containing stapled papers and diagrams of engines, carburetors, plugs etc as he guided us through his latest find. When Pam got into photography additional folders appeared with birds in various stages of flight and nesting, he was so proud of her work.
We loved the family gatherings at the orchard, Lorne put so much effort into making it a beautiful setting, the lawn was manicured, the trees trimmed, Pam's flower beds were tilled, what a joy to sit in the garden or roam the orchard.
And who could forget the "Argo". That machine has been at the orchard for many years and Lorne spent many hours tinkering with it ensuring it always ran. The minute you showed some interest in it he took you for a ride through the orchard. It wasn't that long ago, and to the delight of my 85 year old Mom, he took her on a ride through the orchard at top speed, she loved him for it, as did I.
We sure will miss our times together but feel fortunate to have been able to create so many memories with a kind and caring gentleman.
Pam , we share in your grief and please know we are just a phone call away.

Lorne and Pam have been close friends for 17 years. It almost feels like a Greek Tragedy that someone who you haven't seen for 2 years, suddenly is gone. There will no longer any time to create new memories or to say goodbye. Thankfully, there are many memories of all the good times spent together over the years. Celebrating Christmas in the Sunroom, the Friday night Food Network meals and watching Downtown Abbey and Broadwalk Empire, BBQ's in the backyard and playing croquet, and Birthdays with the bet chocolate cake ever.
Upon reflection, I realized that what will be missed the most, are the signature things that Lorne said or did such as: "It strikes me..." or the Red Day book on the Dining room table that had his tasks for the day written down and crossed out, or telling me he always brought Pam a glass of Ruby red Grapefruit juice in the morning, or being down in the basement watching his favorite shows like Judge Judy and Oak Island, or the huge Snowmobile boots that nobody else will be able to fill.
Lorne always was working on his special projects which he completed with such skill. He also was a very kind and caring man to take to time to teach me to sail and rigg my boat.
As Pam's whole world has been turned upside down, know that you will be supported and loved while you deal with the grief and loss. I am thankful for having your friendship, and to have spent so many good times with Lorne.

To Pam, you and Lorne's family and friends: I was shocked and saddened by the news of Lorne's passing. I always looked forward to the latest photos that Pam and Lorne took of the beautiful birds around St. Marys, many of these birds I have never seen so close up. I will always appreciate your efforts to show folks here and beyond the beauty of nature around us. I went with my family to Keencrest Orchard for many years. My earliest memories were of my family buying apples and apple cider at the well-run orchard, and seeing Lorne with his sailboat out at Wildwood when my father had his boat there. Lorne was a true, respectful gentleman, and we were all richer for his presence among us. May your loving memories of Lorne comfort you, Pam, your family and friends at this difficult time.

I first met Lorne when he was dating my sister, Pam.At that time he owned several Jaguar automobiles including an XKE roadster and a 3.8 sedan which he raced in the winter on frozen Ontario Lakes. I remember from the early days his ever present Du Maurer cigarette and occasional glass of Myers dark rum and coke. I also remember one grand entrance at the local A & W in the winter snow spinning his E type 360 degrees into a parking spot.
In later years at the orchard and out sailing, he would never be without his Tilley hat and Sperry Topsiders as he expertly plied the waters of Wildwood Lake In his jack Payton Kerry Dancer.
Lorne had a keen interest in machining metal and used his expertise to improve the performance of the marine fittings on his sailboat to make it even faster, but he was never too busy to stop what he was doing and lend you a hand.
Lorne’s passing was a terrible shock and he will be missed by all. I’m so sorry, Pam. Love, Barry.

Uncle Lorne was never seen without his famous Tilley hat whether on his sailboat on Wildwood Lake or on his red tractor in the apple orchard. Lorne always had a keen way of helping his nieces, nephews, family and employees to strive todo their best.
Lorne had a sense of humour which usually meant someone else was going to be in trouble. His heart was as big as his shoe size and he loved taking many tour groups of young preschoolers for walks through the apple orchard usually ending with a cold glass of cider which had been pressed on-site.
Lorne’s love of his life and soulmate , Pam’s respect and love for each other was something I strived for in my own life.
In recent years, Lorne, Pam & their faithful family pet, Mojo, “Team Shutterbug” share their photo adventures which were enjoyed by many. Pam had a gift for photography but they worked together as a team to capture nature’s beauty.
Thankyou Uncle Lorne for the wonderful memories which will live on in our hearts forever.

When I think of Lorne I remember the special times sailing on Lake Wildwood, and even Lake Huron. It was always a happy time on the sailboat. I also remember working on the orchard a few seasons learning how to sort and grade apples. He taught me how to recognize different kinds and totally spoiled me for anything but a fresh apple! My deepest sympathies to you Pam.

Pam, we are thinking of you with sympathy and sadness on Lorne’s death. Our memories include his driving through a snow storm to take me to your house because I couldn’t get home over closed roads. Later, we remember visiting you at your lovely home at the orchard. When roads are really slippery I often think of you and Lorne ice racing and thinking that even icy roads have to be better than racing on a frozen lake. We are wishing you strength and courage in carrying on.
