Helen truly was a genuine soul . A long time family friend of my parents Mac and Anne. Always left me feeling like she was glad to know me when we would bump into one another.
I am grateful and honoured to have had this graceful woman as a friend. A true Earth Angel.

Ann McLean-Gatto posted a condolence
Saturday, March 26, 2022
We extend to all of Helen's family our heartfelt sympathy. She was a fine & very special mother and grandmother to her much loved family and a valued friend to so many as well.
Even though she had her own large and wonderful family, she still made a point of reaching out to extended family as well. My sister, Mary (McLean) Macmorine and myself, Ann McLean-Gatto, are perfect examples of this. Helen would phone us, from time to time, to see how we were doing and to give us her love. I still have a caring voice mail message on our phone from Helen when she heard that I was ill and home after hospital surgery. She offered her best wishes & again, told me that she and the family loved me. I was very much touched by her message.
My sister, Mary and I are both first cousins to Helen's first husband, Lloyd. Our Dad, Blake McLean was brother to Ralph McLean, father of Lloyd. Both Mary and I were also devastated by the loss of Lloyd in the tragic accident of 1981. To us, he was a much valued cousin. He was a fine and outstanding human being, a very caring family man to his children and a loving husband to Helen. I expressed to Helen and to Lloyd's and Helen's children, our deepest sympathy in their profound grief.
Very few could tell of being the proud grandmother of 25 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 15 great, great grandchildren and even one great, great, great grandchild!! Wow! What an incredible legacy your Mom has left!
Helen had such a long and very full life. However, each of us has just one mother and to Helen's children, your loss of Helen will leave a very large and empty place in your hearts right now. Still, your many times spent with your mother and especially times of family gatherings & celebrations will leave you with so many good memories. Do treasure these memories for they will always be a part of you.
Helen's obituary was so well written & so well done - a very special and beautiful tribute to her, to her life and to her many accomplishments and talents. It was good to know that she was able to share her life with her second husband, Gord Nethercott, for 29 years. Indeed, they were blessed. The obituary spoke of your mother's grief in the loss of two husbands and her son Al, at a very young age. Despite her grief, your Mom found the much needed strength to carry on.
I enjoyed reading of Helen's travels all over the world. Indeed, she had good reason to consider herself well-travelled. I was delighted in reading of your Mom's musical talents, both in singing, playing the piano & other instruments too. I can well imagine, with her piano playing, how she brought so many together to enjoy the healing and uplifting nature of music. I was amazed that as recently as Christmas past, Helen played tune after tune on the grand piano in the lounge at Fairhill while others sang along!
In memory of and in honour of your mother, we were pleased to make a donation to "Sleeping Children Around the World".
Again, we express our deepest sympathy to all your family.
With our caring and our love, Ann McLean-Gatto & Rick Gatto

Dear Larry, Gord, Barb, Betty and Margie (and all the extended family...)
Aunt Helen will always hold a very special place in my heart. Growing up in our little area around Motherwell, with all of you, Grandpa and Grandma Thompson, and Uncle Vernon, Aunt Bess and Gary all within walking distance made for a great, loving, family-filled childhood. Gathering at each other's homes (whoever turn it was that year) for the Thompson Christmas, all the various family gatherings, your mom was always there with a smile and a warm hug. I remember so many times sitting around the big table in the kitchen out at the house at Science Hill and discussing everything under the sun. Your mom's door was always open and so inviting.
Even once I moved away, whenever I was home, your mom always made sure to have me over and catch up on things. Sitting around the table of the house she got in town and her showing off her garden to me while we talked was one of the things I looked forward to whenever I got back to town. She was so proud about all of you and your families, and everything all of you had accomplished. I always got to see new pictures of everyone (especially of any new babies in the family). The joy she took in all of you was amazing.
I'm sorry I can't be with you at the service, but know that you have all my love and condolences. Lots of Love, Marilee
