I had met Jean when she spoke at our Zonta meeting about how she helps the Cuban families, I collected many things for her to take on her next trip. She also shared with me that a Syrian family needed a TV and I had 2 to donate, when she came to pick them up she brought me a lovely package of cheese from St. Marys as a thank you. Jean I know there is a special place for you in Heaven. My heart goes out to your family and friends and community. Louanne

My babysitter at two years old. Number three son at the time with my two older brothers, Jean Gammage lived a handy block away. At two, I remember nothing. Yet all my life when I see Jean smile at me, a knowing look, that we had a connection. Jean smiled at everyone, old, young and new to our Town. A nice memory to cherish, a smile.

John and Marie Stevens posted a condolence
When somebody passes, people often say that they have gone to a better place. Of course Jean has gone to a better place because she had that rare quality where anywhere she went became a better place. So where she has gone has just become better because of her. It was the same with the people she met. She helped so many become better people. And while she is making her new home better, we can't help but sense that while she will be missed here, the people's lives she has touched and made better will continue on making this world a better place because she was a part of their lives. And I think that's the best tribute to Jean.

Shellie (Young) Wilson posted a condolence
Shellie (Young) Wilson I am so sorry for the loss of your mom - what a truly lovely woman she was. I have so many wonderful memories of both of your parents from my sleepovers as a child. They always made me feel so welcome and comfortable- your dad would always joke and tease, and your mom was always so very sweet and gracious. I had the privilege of seeing them at their home in St. Mary’s just before you lost your dad, and then saw your mom just a few years ago at my dad’s funeral. It was so special that she came to share her condolences with my siblings and I - but that is the kind of person she was - always full of love and kindness. May you treasure every memory of her and know that she has left a beautiful legacy behind for you all.

Christina Douthwaite posted a condolence
My sincerest condolences on your family's loss. Jean was the picture of grace and humanity and I feel so fortunate to have had the chance to get to know her over the years in our pilates class. She was the ray of sunshine in our class and it will never be the same without her inspiring us all to try harder and push ourselves the way she would. There are a few people that you meet in life that change the way you think and inspire a change for the better and she was one of them. She always remembered the details of peoples lives and wouldn't forget the next week to ask how everything went. Her kindness, empathy and ability to connect to people so easily was remarkable. She spoke often about her family and the joy they were in her life. She made a difference in so many ways to so many lives and the loss will be felt not only within the community but in all corners of the world where her humanitarian work changed the course of families lives.

Peter and Annette Rice posted a condolence
We first met Jean at the pool where we had a lot of fun timing each other, and planning strategies, for the "Senior Games" swim meets. Even though she had a number of years on me, it was always difficult to keep up with her as we swam our lengths. She soon found out about my art work and became an avid follower, showing up at a number of shows and always showing interest through positive comments in person and through social media. She eventually purchased a piece entitled, "Shorelines" which reminded her of her beloved Manitoulin Island. Jean was a great listener, and you always felt as if you were the most important person in her life during those conversations. We admired her work in the community and other parts of the globe, and were pleased when she agreed to deliver a box of medical supplies to Cuba for us on one of her many trips there. Her smile never failed to light up any room she entered, and we will miss that. Jean has set an example that we can all strive to live up to. Thank you for all that you have done to make this world a better place Jean.

Your family obviously but our whole community will never be the same. Jean was one of a kind. Always thinking of others & how she could help. So generous with her knowledge & time. I feel honoured to have had the opportunity to share my little bit of knowledge with her when she came to Pilates class. She would say "that makes sense......that feels good.......thank you Sue". She inspired me every time I was around her & encouraged me to join her & Ruth in the senior games doing the triathlon. She was very competitive & such a great swimmer/athlete.
