My deepest sympathy to the Stevens family on Don's passing. I have many wonderful memories of visiting with Don at Holstein events over the years. He was a very respected Holstein and Red & White breeder and I enjoyed working with him various times when we did stories on his animals in the Holstein Journal magazine. He will be missed.

My dear friend Donnie "Chief of the West Side Boys of Mattagami Lake", I cherish our Northern summers at the cottage, gatherings at your St. Mary's pond, visits together with friends in Stratford at Dave and Nancys. Kind, generous, a way of making people feel special and loved - that's our Donnie. Always you will be remembered and missed by Jan and the Fraser family. Our deepest, heartfelt condolences to Donnie's family.

Dear Sherry, Sheila, Sandy and families; Jane and Marty; and dear Joyce We are so very sorry to learn of Donnie's death this week. I think I have memories of your dad since 'always' - first as a young child when he married your mom (my cousin); then as a teenage babysitter to you three girls; and finally as a neighbour and friend as we too raised our family of three. Your dad and I could always find something to chat about when our paths crossed. He will be dearly missed by so many. I know his loving and devoted 'girls' were always there for him - when you and he lost your mom a few years ago, and most recently as his own health deteriorated. He was a lucky man to have had you in his life and you are so lucky to call this gentle big guy 'dad'. I'm sorry that I'm unable to attend the service on Saturday. The stories and the reminiscing will be a testament to seven plus decades well lived. Love and hugs to all. Betty Finnie and family

My condolences to Don's family, sorry to hear of his passing. I fondly recall the protocol regarding calving cases. As soon as a calf was delivered it would be put over a gate with its hindlegs over the gate and hanging down so that any fluid that could obstruct breathing would be expelled. Don would throw a pail of cold water on the calf to provide an extra stimulus! Being a Baptist I enjoyed this total immersion experience.

We aren't able to be at Don's Celebration of Life on Saturday-we are hockey grand parenting. We often saw Don doing that very thing and he was always so proud of his grandchildren, as he was of his 3 daughters. Rob so enjoyed his visits with your father. Rob and Cathy Taylor

My condolences to the Stevens Family. Have had a lifetime of memories with Don and the Stonetown herd. They purchased my grandfather’s Valley Lodge herd and were instrumental in him receiving his Master Breeder shield. Spent lots of hours as well with Don in the early years of the Perth Club Sale and later some interesting discussions during my career as a Holstein Classifier. Spent some time reminiscing the last few years and lots of fond memories.
