Obituary of Marybel Janet Edye
Mom’s wishes were honoured and fulfilled as she passed away at home in St. Marys with family at her side. She was very fortunate to have her health her entire life. During the past months, Mom had a brief illness as her heart could no longer keep up to her pace.Marybel is the daughter of the late Johnny and Marjory Hotson. Sister to John and Irene Hotson of Avonbank , Elizabeth and the late Tom Fairbairn of Stratford. Born February 15, 1929 on a stormy winter’s day on the kitchen table of their Avonbank home. Mom graduated from Normal School in Stratford in 1949. Her elementary teaching career took her to Blanshard Township, Timmins, Holy Name in St. Marys and St. Patrick's in Dublin. For her many students, I’m sure you would like to know that Mom actually failed grade 10, as she only got a 49 in Latin. This just made her stronger as she learned to love the fine art of Grammar. Believe us, Mom is probably still silently correcting not only our grammar, but this obituary as well. Mom loved to travel. She was blessed to have health and an adventurous spirit which took her around the world. Some favourites being New Zealand and Ireland, where she attended Trinity College. She was blessed to see all of Canada, except for Labrador, but she figured it would be a lot like Newfoundland so that was OK. Mom loved her animals so much. They made her complete. She loved tending to her many flower beds on her beautiful grounds. She looked forward to spending time with her friends at the Friendship Centre and her newfound Thamesview United Church family in Fullarton. She also had many strong family ties that she maintained with the Edyes, Hotsons and McIntoshs. A daily crossword never went undone, as she continued to enjoy just days before her departure. Jeopardy and The Wheel of Fortune will never be the same without her. Mom is predeceased by her husband Donald “Buck” Edye (1982). Mother to Frank and Trish (van de Wetering). Granny to their children Sarah (Danny Hemstock), Calvin and Joe. Great Granny to Ben and Jack. Janet Edye, her children Will and Breanna Thomson. Joanne and Don Stroud, their children Jordan and Scott. Joyce and Bryan Hutton, their children Jack and Grace. Also predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law Vernon and Jean Edye of Hespeler, Frances and Bill Bodenham of St.Marys and mother-in-law Verna Edye. Cremation has taken place as to Mom’s wishes. She also expressed her wishes for a Musical Hour with the Gees Gees to take place at AVONBANK UNITED CHURCH, at Line 16 and Road 134, on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., followed by fellowship and food. Private Burial to take place at Avonbank Cemetery.Transportation will be available to and from Mom’s service. Please call 519-284-3645 and leave your name and number if in need of a ride. If able, please honour Mom’s request with donations to The Salvation Army Food Bank. We thank friends and family for their gifts of time, visits, food, flowers, cards, phone calls and prayers. Mom cherished the love and compassion everyone showed.
