On behalf of de family in Holland I am here te pay the last honor to John Poel. He meant al lot to his sisters and brothers in Holland. They all want to thank him for his kindness ..for his hospitality when we were in Canada ..for showing his museum ..for the birds and the birdshouses in his garden ..for his field of sunflowers. We all want to thank him for who he was. We keep our good memories in our heart. That he may rest in peace.

Dear Aunt Nellie, John and Janet, Jerry and Marilyn, Jeff, Jason and Janice; all the grandchildren and great grandchildren, all the extended family and friends: My heartfelt condolences on the death of Uncle John. I have so many good memories of him, especially when he was at my parents' home, sitting at the kitchen table telling stories and talking farming, or in the living room for birthday parties, with lots of joking and his patented hearty laugh. I am very grateful that Uncle John and Aunt Nellie are my Godparents. That was always very meaningful to me and a great support. I am sorry that I won't be able to be with you as you celebrate the gift of Uncle John's life and eternal life. I'm in California for a year of discernment and formation to enter the Capuchin - Franciscan Religious Community. We celebrated a Mass for Uncle John, and I will continue to pray for him and all of you as you miss him. Peace, Peter

I was lucky to get to know John Poel over the past few years. John was a people person with a great sense of humor. I loved hearing his stories about Indonesia and growing up in Holland. We shared a passion for birds and wildflowers, and he was always interested in hearing about my latest biological field adventures. I am sorry that I will not be able to make it to his funeral to celebrate his life. My thoughts are with the Poel family and John's friends during this difficult time. Janice Ball
