Monique and Family, In the summer of ‘75 Tony took me on his crew for the summer. I was 16. Although I was probably not a very helpful guy on his construction crew, he was a very patient and helpful employer. I learned a lot and he made me feel valuable. Really sorry for your loss. When I arrived in St. Marys on the farm at age 21, Tony was building one of many barns and sheds . He explained to me that they expected coffee twice a day and with a big grin, added “baking would be appreciated”. We rose to the challenge and he showed us all, the value of stopping work , to sort out the little troubles with a joke or two thrown in. In Guatemala, on Tony’s build team, we watched him cut through language barriers and win over skeptics with a big smile and his gentle manner. So many lives that Tony has touched. I am grateful to have known him. I can only wish you Monique, and family, much strength .

Alfons Weersink posted a condolence
Dear Monique and family, Tony was a wonderful man. We got to know each other well during the several summers that I worked for him. At first, it was his physical strength and ability as a carpenter that I admired. Then, it was his silly sense of humour- “let’s find a radio station with a better weather forecast”. But ultimately what defined Tony was his kindness, especially to those less fortunate. He was so generous with his time to help others in St Marys and places far away like Haiti. Keep smiling Tony.

Dear Monique and family, We are so sorry to hear of Tony’s passing. He was such a dear man and cared so deeply about helping others. A memory I will always hold dear to my heart was when we visited an orphanage in Haiti. We were touring the facility and a little child came running into Tony’s arms and clung on so tightly. The tears immediately came to Tony’s eyes and it was at that moment I realized what a big and kind heart Tony truly had. He will be so dearly missed by his Hope for Haiti Family. We will all try to Keep Smiling just for you. Rob and Sharon Staffen
