Obituary of John Esebius Gras

It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of John Esebius Gras on January 27, 2020 at the age of 60. John was born and raised near Stratford, ON, and after a few years working the oil fields in Western Canada and Saudi Arabia, he returned to his rural roots, farming near St. Marys for 28 years.John leaves the blessings of memories, lovingly missed by his wife Janie (Boere), and their children Kayla, Trevor, Devin, Brayden and Amy at home. John is also survived by his daughter Lauren & Adam (Scarborough) and proud Opa to their son Emmett, of Chico, California.John is predeceased by his parents Andre & Betty (Boersen) of The Netherlands. He will be dearly missed by his sister, Jane & Doug (Downey) and brothers, Gerry & Pat (Ferris), Rick & Erma (Boere), Paul & Angela (Jochems) and Robert & Ana (Acosta). Many in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews will deeply miss his easy conversation and warm smile.John was a fan of the water, whether swimming or boating, and equally enjoyed its frozen form, whether on skis, skates or at the curling rink. An avid card player, John was happiest spending time with family and friends. John served as a Regional Representative with Chicken Farmers of Ontario for a number of years and was an active member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Parish in St. Marys.Relatives and friends are welcome on Friday, January 31, 2020 at HOLY NAME OF MARY PARISH (149 King St. N, St. Marys) from 1-3pm and 6-8pm with a Prayer Service by The Knights of Columbus Council 9610 at 5:45pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on a Saturday, February 1st, 2020 at 11:00 am. Burial in St. Marys Cemetery.Donations are welcome to Stratford and District Right to Life or Holy Name of Mary Parish.
