Obituary of Arnold Frederick DeLong

Surrounded by family at his residence in St Marys, Ontario, Arnold Frederick DeLong flew with the angels on January 16th 2021 to his resting place. Born in Glassville, Carleton County, New Brunswick on Nov 15 1932. Beloved husband of Margaret (Coddington) married in St Marys June 18 1959. Father of Frederick and Rhonda , Darlene and James Roger and Colleen and Stephen Coulthard. Grandchildren: Meagan and Devon Stewardson, Abbey and Christopher Thistle, Cody and Brittney Roger, Ashley Roger and Scott Kemp, Matthew Coulthard, Johnny and Carolyn Coulthard. Great grandchildren: Ashlynn, Sophie and Madeline Stewardson, Mayla, Tealya, Lachlann and Daxton Thistle, Duncan Roger, Drew Kemp and Stanley Coulthard.Survived by his sisters Audrey Corbett, Betty De Long, Sharon Tenhave (Harry) all of New Brunswick. Predeceased by his parents Fred and Viola (nee Rideout) De Long, brother in law Joseph Corbett (2011) brother Harold(2014) and sister in law Beverley (2014).Brother in Law of Jack Coddington (Betty), Jim Coddington (Karen), Ruth Fletcher, Bill Coddington (Betty, Monica, Nancy), Brenda Coddington, June Pickering (Leonard), Linda Coddington , Helen Chesterfield ( Robert), Marianne Coddington, Jean Carroll, (Jim McVeeney, Joe). Predeceased by his Father and Mother in law Jack and Audrey Coddington. Sister in laws and Brother in laws, Joyce Coddington (1979), Lawrence Coddington (1996), Murray Fletcher (2015), Kenneth Coddington (2017), Nelson Coddington (2018), Patricia Coddington (2019), Sally Vanstickler (2020).Arnold joined the RCAF as a teletype operator, worked the pipeline in Elliott Lake, then to Great Star Flour Mill, Hammond Fuels delivering coal, the asphalt crew then trained as an Oil Burner Mechanic. He retired from his own business, De Long Burner Service after 33 years. Upon retirement Arnold played the guitar in " Lady Fiddler Band" with his wife on the fiddle. He also played at nursing homes, jamborees and other functions. His greatest joy was having his grand and great grandchildren come to visit and give him hugs which always put a smile on his face.A Private Graveside Service will take place at St. Marys Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the St. Marys Healthcare Foundation, St. Marys Legion or the Stratford Perth Humane Society.
